limestone

What is limestone?

The first building stones that were used by humans were river pebbles, and with the passage of time and with the increase of human knowledge, they realized that other natural stones can be found on the surface of the earth. Building stones are formed in nature and are considered a natural element, that's why it has a lot of variety. The most important categories of natural rocks include igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, limestone and metamorphic rocks. Limestone is one of the natural calcareous and sedimentary stones. This building stone is formed from deposits of minerals called calcite, which itself is made of lime, and for this reason, limestone is included in both sedimentary and limestone categories. These rocks are formed by types of carbonate rocks, carbonate minerals and matrices.
Other minerals that make up this stone include argonite dolomite, quartz, feldspar, hematite and limonite. Limestone can be called a stone between travertine and marble. It is also known as the youngest sedimentary rock because the formation time of this rock is shorter compared to other sedimentary rocks. Early extraction of these stones makes them less resistant to erosion, which means that they are easily crushed against impact, wear, contact with sharp tools, etc. In addition, because a higher percentage of the structure of this stone is made of limestone, it has a very high water absorption, which makes it less useful than marble and travertine, but the background color is uniform, bright and very beautiful.

The appearance and characteristics of limestone

Limestones usually have a uniform appearance with light and white colors. One of the best features of these stones, which attracts the attention of many builders and architects, is the bright theme of this stone. In the market, there is also the silver color of limestone, which is known as Bojan limestone, but usually limestone has a bright white appearance. Limestone has various features that we will mention below.

• Low erosion resistance The short life of the stone and the faster extraction of this stone is the reason why it has less erosion resistance, which makes it easily damaged and broken by impact, wear, sharp tools, etc.
• Very high water absorption: due to its calcareous nature, it has high water absorption.
• High stainability: these are the features that limit the use of this stone and reduce the beauty of this stone in the long run. Usually, this stone should not be used in crowded places.
• The background color is uniform, bright and very beautiful.
• The low price of this stone can be an advantage over other building stones. Reasonable prices are ideal options for builders.

Application of limestone

Limestone cannot be used in any space, for example, this stone is not used as stairs because stairs are a place of frequent traffic. These stones are used in places that are less exposed to moisture or water. If this stone is properly processed and its holes are covered with resin, it can be used in the back of the building if needed.
In general, this stone should not be used in places where it is possible to hit the stone. Limestone is usually used in the walls of staircases, parking lot walls, and interior facades. One of the most important advantages of this stone is its consistency. When the surface of the stone is uniform and uniform, when it is used in the facade of the building, it can provide a smooth and perfect surface.

Types of limestone

There are different types of limestone, which we will mention here so that you can get more familiar with these products.

  • White limestone

This stone is also known as tramite, which is very important in the construction industry. Limestone has a smooth and clear surface. This stone has high water absorption and is used in different parts of the building due to its light color and creates a pleasant atmosphere in the building. In the last few years, with the progress of science and technology, they have been able to nanosize limestone stones and thus become very resistant to water absorption.

  • Gemstone Limestone

Limestone is light cream-white in color. Limestone is actually from the marble family, which is incomplete and therefore has a lot of lime. The higher the quality of this natural stone, the more uniform it is, and in its lower grades, there are scattered brown streaks in its background.

  • Limestone Wank

This stone is in the group of white limestone stones, which has a lot of lime and is often processed in polished, axed and leathery forms and in longitudinal dimensions. Due to high water absorption and low compressive strength, Vanak limestone does not have good subduction.

  • Limestone Elixir

Limestone Elixir has a unique beauty with its exclusive warm color. This type of stone is very similar to clay bricks and Gandmak stone, but due to its material, which is limestone, it does not have the disadvantages of Gandmak marble and can be used outside the building and open area.
